This year, George P. Austin Jr. High School is utilizing a House System–a behavior strategy used in schools to foster a sense of community, encourage positive behavior, and promote student engagement.
Each student is assigned to a “House”, a small supportive group within the larger school community. Students decide on their House name, colors, logo, chant and handshake. Points are earned for positive behavior, academic achievement, and participation in school activities. During Monday Morning Kickoffs, Houses compete in various activities promoting teamwork and school spirit.
We believe the House System will create a positive school culture by making students feel connected and valued, encouraging them to support one another, and driving collective success.
